Animal Control

The Animal Control Officer (ACO) is Dillon Rosa. You can contact Animal Control at 231-723-3170, or report animal complaints to Manistee County Central Dispatch at 231-723-6241.

Dillon Rosa joins us as our new deputy in charge of the Sheriff’s Animal Control Division. Rosa is a ten-year U.S. Coast Guard Veteran and former Benzie County Animal Control Officer. He brings many years of law enforcement experience and a passion for the position to the Sheriff’s Office. 

Please note that the Animal Control Officer is often out of the building handling calls. Leave a detailed message with your name and a call-back number, and your call will be returned.

Functions

  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens and animals in Manistee County
  • Enforce State Laws and Local Ordinances pertaining to animal control
  • Minimize danger and nuisances caused by irresponsible pet ownership
  • Protect pets from abuse, neglect, and homelessness
  • Provide temporary housing and care of homeless animals
  • Coordinate adoptions with Homeward Bound Animal Shelter
  • Provide "humane" euthanasia when necessary

Please note that ACO does not handle non-domesticated animals such as deer, raccoons, skunks or any other such animals. Contact your local Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for complaints of that nature.

Licensing Information & Fees

All dogs 4 months of age or older must be licensed and have a current rabies vaccination. Tags must be kept on the dog. Licenses are available at the Manistee County Treasurer’s Office or the Humane Society. Please contact either office directly for details.
