What You Should Know Before You Come to Court
Subject to Search All persons who enter the 85th District Court are subject to a search of both their person and belongings. Signs posted at the Court’s entrance list all items which are prohibited and which will be seized if found on your person. Prohibited items include weapons of any kind and activated electronics i.e. cell phones, pagers, ipods.
Proper Attire Proper attire is required for appearance in 85th District Court.
On Time You must appear promptly at times designated on your notice, ticket, or other documentation. Failure to appear timely may result in adverse action being taken against you.
No Food/Beverages You will not be allowed to eat, drink, chew gum or smoke inside the courtroom. You will also not be allowed to enter the courtroom with any beverages or food.
Electronic Devices Electronic devices must be turned off in the courtroom and hallway adjacent to courtroom.
Court of Record You should maintain silence while court is in session. While this is a matter of common sense and courtesy to others, the rule is required in order to assure an accurate record of proceedings. The 85th District Court is a “court of record” which means that all proceedings are recorded. Extraneous noise or talking may interfere with the recorded testimony.
Children Young children will not be allowed in the courtroom during session without the prior permission of the court.

When traveling North or South on US-31, turn West on Third Street and travel three blocks. The 85th District Court is located on the second floor of the Courthouse at 415 Third Street in the City of Manistee (click for a map).
